My “Light & Dark” series is dedicated to exploring emotion and the universal human experience.

So much of the art world has given over to the concept that a work must be explained to be appreciated.  Seemingly, the viewer must become educated on the intent of the artist in order to comprehend his or her work.  In response, this series explores the ability of the figure to express human emotion in an immediate and accessible way.

I use predominately male figures in my work.   Unlike the Renaissance, when the male figure was considered artistically ideal, the female figure is now highly represented.   In a society striving for equality, it is important to remember that both figures can be used as forms of expression and admired as objects of beauty.
